This book was a grand adventure, but I cannot wait for the next from this author! I purchased an eBook copy of this title for my own library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility. In my humble opinion, this is the best one yet!
I have been following this series since the first one, Folly. I have loved every one and this one tops them all. But do not fear dear reader, if you have not been following this series. The author provides enough background that this can be read as a stand-alone. If you have never read Sabrina York, and like historical novels, this would be a great place to become acquainted with her work.
I love what Ms York did with her In my humble opinion, this is the best one yet! I love what Ms York did with her characters in this. He seems likable enough, but has no direction other than to have fun. His brother has decided Ned needs seasoning so is sending him to the continent for a Grand Tour.
Then there is the heroine, Sophia. Little sister to The McCloud. Brigand Now if you believe her brother, she is your basic society debutante groomed to marry well. In fact the story opens with them arguing about whether or not she is going to marry a prince. Sophia wants love and passion like what she sees her brother and his wife have, not just some well titled nabob from who knows where that she hardly knows, let alone likes.
AND she wants some adventure. When her brother insists that she marry a man of his choosing, Sophia decides it is time to find some adventure. What was so very fun about this book was who, exactly, seduced whom in this rollercoaster of a romp. And he was an honorable man. And he was a stubborn man.
And her brother was very large. So Ned banished his lust. It was the very curious, and not so innocent Sophia. She pleasured him. It made me grin and cheer.
And the author did it so well that it really worked — even in this historical novel where young women of society were not supposed to know such things let alone do them. That is just the romance part of the book. This story also has hurricanes at sea, pirate attacks, interfering family, and scandal.
This book grabbed me and held me hostage until the very last page. I mean, who needs sleep anyway? I could not put it down and I did try. But, it called to me to finish and would not let me sleep. It was that good. I adored these characters and loved every sentence of this very well written, amazing story. Another hit for Sabrina York!
Hotness Rating 3 out of 5 4. Defiant is the 5th book of the Noble Passions series and in contention for my favorite. Just the fact that she has made me love regency historical is a feat in itself and she has done that and then some.
Ned has sowed his wild oats to the point that his family can't take it anymore. Rather than watch him to continue down his wild path his brother, the Duke, is sending him to the Continent for "sea Hotness Rating 3 out of 5 4.
Rather than watch him to continue down his wild path his brother, the Duke, is sending him to the Continent for "seasoning". Ned can't imagine anything worse than being sent away.
But, then again, he has lived worse. He and his family were penniless and homeless until Edward took them in. That alone is the reason that he can't have the only woman he has ever loved. Sophia's brother Ewan has sacrificed his whole life, so that when she reached the age to marry she could have her pick of anyone she wanted.
The problem is she doesn't want the royal, high society, dandy men that Ewan insists on presenting to her. She has only ever wanted one man, but that man can barely stand to be in the same room with her. Which really stinks considering his sister is married to her brother and they are often together. I loved Ned so much and here I thought I couldn't love anyone more than Ewan. It took approximately 2 chapters for my heart to hurt for him.
He didn't have the strength and "don't screw with me" attitude that Ewan had, so when pitted against him poor Ned didn't stand a chance. Watching his growth and journey to finding the man that he is was what made me love him the most.
Sophia was such a fun, strong female character. She was so much like her brother, but born into a society that doesn't admire strength and independence in their women. I can't imagine how smothered she had to feel. The love that this couple shared was enlightening and painful, but genuine and hopeful.
I am so thankful that I have discovered this amazing series by Sabrina York! You can find this review and others at www. Defiant is the first historical story I have had the chance to read by Sabrina York. I must say this talented lady can write historical romance with steam just as well as she write contemporary. I positively adored Sophia.
She has a quirky humor, a sassy side, and oh my is that girl full of curiosity. When she sets out to get what she wants she pretty darn good at doing what ever it tak Defiant is the first historical story I have had the chance to read by Sabrina York.
When she sets out to get what she wants she pretty darn good at doing what ever it takes to get. She is also creative, brave, and knows when to poor on the charm. She is quite a lady and I really enjoyed meeting her. Ned is the bad boy that is being punished for hanging with the wrong crowd. He loves Sophia so but her brother thinks he is not any where near good enough for her. I really liked Ned, under his bad boy persona he really is a sweet, good hearted gentleman that will do what ever has to be done to have his lady love.

He stands accused of financial naivety, of rampant commercialism and of exploiting the nation's most precious cultural icon: William Shakespeare.
Now, in an astonishing response to his critics, Noble has decided to hit back. Rounding on the 'snobbery' that surrounds British art, the year-old has attacked the shocking forces of 'conservatism' he says he has had to confront.
It is extraordinary,' Noble said. I happen to believe that's complete bollocks. The director, who is also facing the threat of industrial action by backstage staff, says he is determined to go ahead with controversial moves to market the RSC's brand name commercially and to create a 'theatre village' for tourists on the banks of the river in Stratford-upon-Avon designed by Dutch architect Erick van Egeraat.
Earlier this year Noble pulled out of a year deal with the Barbican, the RSC's purpose-built London home, in favour of a more extensive touring schedule and of shorter runs in commercial West End venues. These moves, all part of the RSC's Project Fleet, have already prompted the resignations of the governor of the theatre, writer John Mortimer, and of the veteran Shakespearean director Terry Hands.
Hands, who ran the RSC in the s and was once Noble's mentor, declared the plans 'artistically and financially' unviable.
